Edward Ruscha created this set of nine greeting cards for his 2000 exhibition at Anthony d’Offay Gallery in London. The show ran from May 5 to June 3, 2000, and this promotional piece was produced alongside the exhibition. The collection presents five color images of Ruscha’s recent mountain landscapes alongside four photographic portraits of the artist himself. Ruscha’s mountain works suggest cinematic landscapes, exploring how language can both clarify and obscure meaning – themes that run throughout his career with a background in graphic design.
Each card measures 6.9 x 6.9 inches (17.5 x 17.5 cm), with envelope. The set is housed in a paper box measuring 7.3 x 7.3 x 0.4 inches (18.5 x 18.5 x 1 cm), still in the original foil wrapping.
