Pietro Gallina (born 1937 in Turin, Italy) is an Italian artist best known for creating Nevigrafie (snow prints) and painted wooden silhouettes. Gallina began his artistic career after working in advertising, which is evident in his strong graphic oeuvre. In 1967, he started to explore a combination of visual and spatial arts and graphic experimentation. During the 1970s, he designed logos for various brands. His works are exhibited at MoMA (including the piece Portrait of Alighiero Boetti) and at other museums around the world. In 2006, Italian art publisher Bolaffi hosted a solo exhibition of his work, showcasing pieces from various periods of his career. One of his most recent exhibitions took place at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Turin in 2013.
This three-colour screen print, titled Dalia Gigante (Giant Dalia), bears a stamped signature on the back. It is identical to the screen print that Galina contributed to the third instalment of the La Lune en Rondage edition. Only 215 of these were available in 1977 (150 for sale and 65 hors commerce). It is unclear whether it was produced for the edition or is a trial print. The cut out flower print has a diameter of ca. 20 cm. The wooden frame measures 42,5 x 43 x 4.5 cm (length 16,75 x height 17 x width 1.8 inches).
