Stefanie Schneider is a photo artist born in Cuxhaven, Germany in 1968 and based in Los Angeles, recognised for her creative use of Polaroid film. Her work explores themes of memory, transience and the blurred boundaries between reality and fiction. Schneider’s photographs are characterised by their sun-drenched palette, soft focus and sense of nostalgia.
She studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in 1996, and has exhibited internationally, with solo and group shows in Europe, the United States, and Asia. Her work is held in private and public collections, and she has collaborated with filmmakers, musicians, and writers. Her ongoing fascination with analogue processes and the unpredictability of expired film has established her as a leading figure in contemporary experimental photography.
