From 1976 to 1991, Glen E. Friedman documented the formative years of skateboarding, punk, and hip-hop. Through his lens, he captured legendary figures such as the Dogtown skaters, Black Flag, Minor Threat, the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy. Like his protagonists, Friedman’s images are celebrated for their raw energy and authenticity. “Fuck you Heroes” is visual chronicle of the subcultures that shaped modern music, art and youth rebellion. Friedman was often present at pivotal moments, capturing the essence of his subjects in images that many consider definitive. The book’s title itself is a statement against idol worship, reflecting the ethos of the scenes he documented.
