The Lacoste crocodile logo was first used in the 1920s, when tennis legend René Lacoste was given the nickname “the Alligator” by American journalists because of his relentless playing style. The moniker, which transformed into “the Crocodile” in France, motivated Lacoste to have a crocodile stitched on his blazer. When he started his clothing brand in 1933, this embroidered symbol became the famous Lacoste logo, making Lacoste the first brand to display a visible logo on clothing. At its founding, Lacoste was primarily known as a brand for tennis apparel, distinguished by its stylish and practical clothing that transitioned from the court to everyday wear, a concept the brand continues to uphold.
The framed print of the logo is on embossed paper, taken from its high-end packaging. Color accents added by hand. The frame measures 9.5 x 12 inches (25 x 31 cm), the print is 9.8 x 6.3 inches (25 x 16 cm).
